Raving about... A Cat of Impossible Colour

Always looking out for fellow opshoppers, I recently discovered the New Zealand blog 'A Cat of Impossible Colour' and am delighted by Andrea's style. It's very vintage, sweet and creative (and usually looks very comfy which is always a bonus in my books). Talking about books, Andrea is a writer originally from Zimbabwe with her next piece of writing being published next March!

Anyway, back to opshopping: I am dying to go to New Zealand now for some good old treasure hunt through the opshops.Based on Andrea's finds (the majority of her clothes are thrifted). Take it away:

PS. You might have noticed that today's post is titled "Raving about... ". It's just a small title change from what we used to call 'Mitzi Delight'. This is one of the few changes you will see over the next four weeks. Stay tuned.

A French Connection

What is it about the French that I find so fascinating? Is it their impeccable taste, their ability to make everything look like a romantic escape or their sweet and sour demeanour that gets me every time? Well, while I might still be stumped by these lingering questions, what I do know is that this happy threesome has created many more for me. While I don't know their life stories, I can see by simple blog connection that these three are a tight knit bunch. While all of their blogs come from different inspirations, they reveal the same days/outings, but through very different eyes/lenses. This reminds me why I love the blogging world so much, you get to peak into someone's life, wardrobe, thoughts but just how they want you to.

From left: Sacha Dumain, Tony Stone (Wolves & Bucks), Adeline Rapon

This girl has been amazing me ever since I stumbled across her blog a few months ago. Aside from kick ass photos, her lazy androgyny keeps me coming back. Each of her posts has a different feel, but every single one of them makes you feel like you are there with her in her bedroom, out with her french pals or walking the streets solo. The photo below I think depicts Adeline's style to a tee.

The official photographer of the bunch. I haven't been taken back by a photo in a while, but once I found this blog, I have been inspired ever since with my own photography. Fashion falls into his blog by default not by force, he makes you want to be there with him looking through that lens to see what it is he sees. A true talent in my amateur eyes. This photo got me, I love his sandals and long hair.

From what I can fathom, this is Miss Adeline's man. This is the beauty behind the camera for Adeline. Despite Tony's amazing work on her blog though, his own lifestyle shots are a real treat in themselves. I just love how his photos change between her blog and his own. His use of colour is so delicious and homemade. I love this photo, so casual and a moment between friends.

So now I dream of being holed up in a rundown Parisian apartment with nothing but bed hair, an oversized nightie, cigarette and bare feet to accompany my sublimely French life. I think it's time for me to organise that overdue elope to Paris . These blogs unknowingly sold me that country once again!

Mitzi Delight: Upcoming Blogs

I love the fact that there are so many blogs popping up all the time - it's a real sign of this generation having its own voice, wanting to expressing something about oneselves and reaching out to others.

Here are some of the blogs I like which don't have a huge following yet, but surely will soon:

MadTwins
I actually found this blog through comments on our blog. It's a dutch blog which was started in May this year. The mad twins are so cute and always post interesting, various topics.

Fashion My Legs
This blog is very 'nice' i.e. only concerned with tights - featuring different (mostly) fashion bloggers sporting outfits with tights. And there are always great! I just love it how she finds the most amazing kinds of tights and stockings. Mental note: buy more tights.

Tick Tock Vintage
Alright I got a blog crush!! I love every single on of Veronika's outfits. I would wear every one. There is a certain simplicity, femininity and elegance to all her outfits. She's only been blogging since April and has a good following already. Must keep visiting.

Mitzi Delight

Today's delights are a random collection of web stars I've discovered in my three favourite areas: fashion, photography & food!

1. First up: Excitement! Internet crush!! Elinkan from Radar Magazine.
I just discovered Elinkan via bloglovin but I have not had the time to look into Radar Magazine yet (It's swedish, but not sure what it's scope and aim is etc.). Anyway, she is so amazing - her features, her look, her attittude!

2. Rosie Hardy - a wonderful young photographer
. I'm constantly overwhelmed by the amount of photography talent out there. I've used Rosie's photographs as desktop wallpaper for a few months now. They serve as daily inspiration and as reminder to practice my photography skills.

3. Ok it's only sort of food: meet Amy Atlas - dessert table event organiser extrarordinaire. I'm obsessed with her, I want to be her.

Mitzi Delight: Four Dumplings

Couldn't help but post these four delights. Any time I see an outfit/style that catches my eye, I save it to my desktop and continue on my merry way in the hope that something comes of them. Lately, I haven't really been seeing much that grabs me, just feels like a whole lotta the same. Which is going to happen from time to time, there are lulls in every quarter. BUT I am happy to report that the 'lull' has now ceased, today I've come across four dumplings (I love dumplings!!!!) that I couldn't bare to go amiss.

I've been meaning to post this lass for a long time now but couldn't find a place to showcase this fab outfit. I just fell in love with the ochre red, baby blue and stripe combo. Such a natural beauty this one.

This gal reminds me of one of my besties, so I was a little biased at first. However, after giving her outfit a second look, I realised what a cute mix it was. Love the plum throw over and the vintage bag.

This old mate is just amazing, that kinda style is not available regularly, its a rare occurance and when it's captured by the likes of the Sartorialist, then it's just a magic moment.

This to me is the epitome of street style. No bare-legged supermodels in sky-high heels and manicured top to toe here. This is the true style that is rarely photographed, why? I have no idea, I plan to capture more street style through Mitzi like this.

These are four stylish peeps, and probably some of the best outfits I've seen in a long time. And that's a big call considering I scour streetstyle blogs, fashion diaries and anything remotely inspiring on a daily basis.

Mitzi Delight: Black Summer Greetings

I will steer away from typical stereotypes of wearing black and its timelessness. However, I can't help notice, that even with summer having arrived in the northern hemisphere, you see a lot of black around. And I have to admit, I like it somehow. Makes me feel better for being in the cold, not able to wear summery, flowery prints and flowy fabrics. You know, it's as if these people dressed in black are paying homage to the southern hemisphere. Haha I know, wishful thinking. Anyhow, here are some of my recent finds:

The Satorialist: Do you believe this is in New York? I don't. It's too relaxed, casual. And a bicycle? Mh. I guess I need to go back there to find cool people like this.

Anders-Anziehen: One of my favourite streetstyle blogs. Smilla wanders the streets of Cologne, Germany and makes some fabulous discoveries. The best part is, that she chooses people of all walks of life - any age or style. Refreshing in a world where only model-like looking people are seen as acceptable photographic material.

Nast Magazine: This is one of them. But don't you like her attitude? So cheeky, sexy and chilled at the same time.

Sally Jane Vintage: Who doesn't like a sailor's outfit? Always cute, always sexy. I like how Sally keeps this one simple.

Mitzi Delight: Gracing Locks

Hair goodies everywhere, seriously can't handle it. I've never been one to embellish my hair with a hat, ribbons, flowers, or any other worthy item. I have no reasoning for why, I mean I love it when I see someone do it right. So, why I haven't yet escaped the au natural, just rolled of bed look, I'll never know. But there's time for everything in my life, and one things for sure (and Bec will be sure to back me up) I'm not one to be rushed. I take my sweet time to do just about everything. Needless to say, I've had these poppets below do a damn fine job of getting me to sail to the other side of gracing my locks with happy, pretty, fab embellishments.

another day to dress up - Nothing like a round ribbed hat to brighten up a cute floral dress. This gal always gets it the right amount of done, not too much and not too little.

sea of shoes - Jane is ever the ostentatious glamour and she's not failed here in throwing a sweet pattern head scarf in the mix to compliment the colour of the hot pink top.

fashion forestry - I found this glamour as a stumbled across my usual daily haunts. Isn't she divine? Firstly the make up is awesome, but to boot the fascinator just brings all those pinks together to find one classic look.

calivintage - Erin has done the hat, occasional ribbon and turban thing along the tracks, but I've never seen her pull out a felt fascinator? (at least that's what I think it is). It's so adorable, I want one.

leproust vintage - We love a good cloche here. I love this one Kristin has found. It's borderline fascinator as it doesn't sit like a hat as much as some other cloche hats. Love the blue and red lip combo.

q's daydream - We are twins. Not often will you see this little lady wearing anything of the hair accessory kind, but here she's just primped up this outfit with a silk ribbon. Sometimes the simplest of touches can go a long way.

Once again, I'm left with a sense that today's hair situation must have a cute little item accompanying it.... Time to get creative.

Mitzi Delight: Real Vintage

There are so many outfit blogs around and they are great for everyday ideas on mixing up your wardrobe. The outfit photos which I have found the most inspiring lately are outfits blogs that contain real vintage clothes. I wish that I, too, had more ocassions to dress up in vintage gems like this and this. Here are my recent favourite outfits from across the blogosphere:

In order of the pictures above:

Vintage Vixen: Girl Scout Outfit
I love how Solanah always comes up with unusual, very vintage outfits. She never disappoints or bores. This one is a beauty too - who would have thought to dress in a vintage scout uniform?

Diary of a Vintage Girl
Fleur is another one who seems to wear real vintage only. Her hair, make up and dress is always immaculate and she is involved in the vintage scene, also working as a vintage pin up model in London. I love how feminine and put together she looks.

Le Proust Vintage
While not as classically vintage as my first two delights, Kristin from Le Proust Vintage impresses because she breaks the rules. I love this outfit: red on red on red. She has really made this vintage dress look modern again.

Mitzi Delight: Loveable Posts

Being a part of the blogging world can have you sometimes at a loose end. There are so many that you barely know where to start and the majority are either not your cup of tea or just simply not appealing. But when you find the goodies, it's a time to relish. I love coming across a blog where every post has something special and exciting to devour. Bogs are like style in a lot of ways, you chop and change what you like/don't like almost as quick as you have time to make the next click. However, there are always certain elements that you look for and admire. Part of the loveable ones at the moment are these four:

Stumbled across this blog today and had to post about it. Specifically I love this Made In Hawaii blog post. The gorgeous print dress she is wearing is made in Hawaii and I love her writing about the story behind the dress and what she wonders about its origins. I do the very same thing every time I purchase something second-hand. I think I have found a fellow daydreamer.

I fell in love with this post the second I saw it. Aside from the adorable floral dress and cardi mix and red lip add-on, I love all the photos from the post. Such an airy, light and peaceful day it looked like for the two friends. I love it when a blog post takes you into another dimension, it feels like you were there with them. This is always achieved with quality photos and written segment that go together. These are always the ones that naturally flow, and this is definitely one of those posts.

This lovely lady has been a fave of mine for a while, but I particularly loved the colours from this post. I've had this one on my desktop for a while now, and I finally find a place to slot it in. The pop of the dress and belt just smashed me in the face the minute I saw it, and I love it when a photo does that. The bright primary colours of her hair and outfit, sit so powerfully next to the soft landscape. I've said it once and I'll say it again, quality photos make everything seem awesome.

The Owls Are Not What They Seem - Gold Dust
This lass was talking about how she seemed to be buying more neutrals of late and as I read the post I realised I was experiencing much the same trend. Aside from the great use of colour, and that yummy golden silk top she is wearing, I love that she made up the same design herself with a different print. Inspired me to get out my sewing kit and start doing some home-made alterations. She's also got on those enviable Seychelles oxford heels that I've been eyeing off for a good half of a year now. I think this is my sign to purchase.

Hope you enjoy these lovely posts as much as I do!

Mitzi Delight: Vintage Wallpaper

Last night I stayed at a friend's house in Sydney before we tortured ourselves this morning at the Sydney Halfmarathon. I had never been to her house before and when I stepped inside: wallpaper delight!!!

It is her parent's house and the whole place is like it was frozen in the 1970s!! Every wall has vintage wallpaper, woodpanelling and cute family photographs with vintage frames. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me - I always take it everywhere - but this time I thought - "What would I need it for - we are having dinner, then early bedtime and early rise to go running." Well... I will have to go back and do a little photo session there.

So in the meantime, here are some vintage wallpaper inspirations:

Mitzi Delight: Seasonal transitions

The other day, I was thinking about whether fashion blogs should focus on either the northern or southern hemisphere when it comes to outfits, as readers might be looking for inspiration for the season they live in... But then I realised that summer/winter and winter/summer transition are actually quite similar!

Sure, colours might be different, but during autumn in Oz you feel like fighting the oncoming cold by continuing to wear summery clothes with just a jacket thrown over the top and adding tights and in the North you can't wait to rip off those winter coats - but often it is still too cool to show both bare shoulders and legs...

So in celebration of the autumn and spring season, here are four transitional outfits:

1. Another Day to dress up
2. Kansas Couture
3. Liebemarlene Vintage
4. Vintage Vixen

Moral of the story: During seasons' transition, add tights, cardis, boots, hats and cover your shoulders to keep warm :)

Mitzi Delight: I'd wear that

As introduced by Kerry last week, I now continue our weekly Mitzi Delight post. This week it's streetstyles which I would wear.

You know, it's always weird when you make yourself choose pictures that somehow represent your style - and then show them to others. One becomes quite self-consciou. "Is this really an interesting outfit?", "Would this look good on me?" or "Would I really go outside like this?" are some of the questions which went through my mind.

So, here are my choices:

I wish that I could conduct a little "Guess what Bec likes about this look" survey, but in the absence of such technology and immediacy of blog posts, I will just tell you!

1. trendycrew.com: Elisa, Paris Fashion week: I usually prefer 'normal' people's streetstyle outfits because they seem more real and like something I could actually achieve - rather than the polished designer looks which require huge amounts of money and the motivation to follow every trend.

But I still decided to pick this photo. After all I can just use designer looks as an inspiration and adopt aspects of a look into my opshopped outfits.

So what I love about this are the colours and the shape of the garments. Pretty pinks paired with mustard! I wouldn't even have thought of putting them together. I love the loose legs of the pants with the edgy cut of the blazer.

2. Vanessa Jackmann:This picture is of a girl-recently-turned-model. I like that she hasthat casual-comfort-first look while still looking so elegant! I guessit's a little 60s with a touch of 70s school girl. Love the layers andthe floppy hat - a little unexpected but fun!

3. Facehunter: I don't know what to say about this. Clean lines, elegant, no try hard fashion. These are the type of clothes one often forgets to buy in an attempt to look interesting, different, colourful. But as they say, classic style always lasts. Beautiful.

So for me key take aways here are:
1) Try unusual colours and mix them.
2) Go for comfort with an edge and make it fun.
3) Always have some quality, timeless, elegant pieces in my wardrobe.

Mitzi Delight: 4 Current Blog Crushes

We are happy to present a new look for Tuesdays.... Welcome to Mitzi Delight. As I am sure you are all well aware, it takes some time to get regularity with a blog, and having only been in operation for a month (feels like forever!) we're getting the hang of ordering our posts and figuring out how we can bring these things to life at Mitzi. This concept came about as we realised there were so many awesome blogs out there that go (often) unnoticed, despite their quality and value.

Here are 4 blogs we can't give up at the moment:

From top left:

Now, here is a girl doing something different. At least on the outfit front. I love the she splashes herself with the whole colour board. Ambitious as hell and I love it. Ok so some people can just 'get crazy' with out a care in the world, but I believe we all have a bit of this in us we just choose to ignore it and play it safe for fear of odd looks. Her posts make me want to mix my printed items up a bit and just throw something together and see how it goes. For me the androgyny and edgy side to her outfits is the inspirational part, it's a side I don't explore nearly enough. For me she is the one doing something different, none of the boring old trend stuff in this blog.

This is a girl from Germany writing about her daily adventures. The cool thing is people in Germany don't dress up that much - high heels are often frowned upon, so it makes you think 'good on her', she is doing something outside her local environment. She loves her designer goods that's for sure, which isn't my personal cup of tea, however she rocks out and you can't avoid it. Her shoes are always a major feature. She mixes 'pretty, feminine, chic' with leather, tattoos and edgy heels so effortlessly. Genius.
This is a true clothing diary! Originally, this gal wanted to cover all aspects of the fashion industry but as the blog grew organically she realised that her focus became her daily attire, and felt that if the outfit was done by just her, it was in fact something different rather than just posting other people's material. I love how she uses patterns, gets really creative with here outfits and doesn't stick to one particular style. Every outfit has some cool detail, even if it's just patterned tights or a weird collar. She experiments with lots of layering, different cuts, hems and lines. Oh and the best bit, she often pops in a hat for good measure, I love that, this is something I want to start doing. Her accessorising is one of the best I've seen along the blog track.

This is a lovely, dreamy blog. It feels like she is a girl stuck in the woods, lathered in vintage every post. My fave part of this blog is the variety, there is always different people in the photos and tales of girly gatherings and the like. This girl lives the dream, or at least she portrays it very well. Great outfits concepts and glorious photography.

So be sure to keep the suggestions coming in with treasures you come across, we love hearing about your finds and other great places you discover.

Mitzi Delight - Spring Has Sprung

Oh how I love Spring time... It makes everything feel more pretty, soft, happy and free. The minute the sun hits on a regular basis (depending where you live obviously), nature turns on its colours and its finally okay to walk out of the house in little more than a cardigan for security, this is my time to feel comfortable.

I have never felt it more since I moved to Barcelona. Coming from Sydney, it shocked me how important the weather is to my fellow Europeans. I sense now, my own reliance on nature and the sun and how much we need it to enjoy each day. So along my merry searching, I have come across so many great posts to celebrate the Spring time, that I had to share them with you (with a little help from Erin from calivintage for inspiration).

From top left:

The minute I saw this post, I felt a sense of girly frolicking, picnics, parks, good wine and friends. Such great photos and the girls all look so happy and with a whole lot of style. Makes me want to get all my girlfriends and make a tea party somewhere pretty.

Always a source of inspiration for me, especially with her use of colour. She is ambitious with her use of colour but always makes sure to represent each piece and not clutter the look. So spring, and love the use of browns to support the gorge red floral print dress? So not, a dress so Im going with the top combo all the way.

These photos just remind of home in the sunshine. On the lake, relaxing, with friends and enjoying random banter and stories aplenty. Love this pink ruffle top, even though I wouldn't normally go for this colour, I think its going to have to make an appearance at some point just for some adventure.

Ever fabulous, this lady never ceases to amaze me in the photo department. Just want to eat the photos she posts. She keeps everything always simple, chic and interesting. The jacket is to die for. And most importantly, ALWAYS wearing a smile, which isn't very common here in the fashion blog world.

This little number is too cute. Erin always manages to keep her outfits super clean and minimal and her look is always so effortless. I often think people clutter, over-accessorise and over-do certain looks, the most stylish are never confused, always hitting the spot on the style they like without the bells and whistles.

Welcome to Spring peeps, enjoy the sunshine, it's going to be a good one.
